Greece's largest island packs in Minoan ruins, mountain gorges, and some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean. Resort towns along the north coast are well set up for families, while the south coast feels noticeably quieter and more rugged.
Heraklion airport serves most of the island's package resorts. A hire car opens up day trips to Samaria Gorge or the Lassithi Plateau if you want a break from the pool.
