Athens in Greece has built its reputation on boat trips out to nearby coves and day trips inland to villages that see far fewer visitors — the kind of place that rewards slowing down rather than rushing between sights. The Acropolis, rooftop bars, and beaches just outside the city.
Flights land at ATH airport, and the pace on the ground is generally sociable — expect the day to be built around the beach, with everything else fitted in around it. Athens is well suited to both a short week away and a longer, slower two-week stay.
